Naomi is a senior research associate at UCL’s Institute of Archaeology. Her work focuses on science education, particularly in collaboration with marginalised groups. Naomi completed her PhD at King’s College London in 2016 for which she researched families’ interactions with science

Supporting young children’s learning from science objects: the importance of play on gallery

This paper is based on prototype testing at the Science Museum that considered how to support young children’s learning from objects on gallery. It is argued that providing for and enabling play is crucial for young children in family groups to establish familiarity and context related to unfamiliar objects, and that this is associated with learning.
