Harold Wilhite

Professor Emeritus

Harold Wilhite is a Professor Emeritus of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo's Centre for Development and Environment. He has published widely on the theories, practices and policies of consumption, energy savings and sustainable development, drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in several parts of the world, including Central America, USA, Norway, Japan and India. He has worked closely with European and Norwegian policy development in the domains of energy conservation and sustainable development. He is one of the co-founders of the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ECEEE) and its Director from 1993–2001. His books include the Consumption and the Transformation of Everyday Life: A View from South India (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and Political Economy of Low Carbon Transformation: Breaking the Habits of Capitalism (Routledge, 2016)
