Jon Agar
Professor and Co-Head of the Department of Science and Technology Studies

Jon Agar is Professor and Co-Head of the Department of Science and Technology Studies, University College London. He is a historian of modern science and technology, and author of books including The Government Machine (MIT Press, 2003), Science in the Twentieth Century and Beyond (Polity, 2012), Constant Touch: a Global History of the Mobile Phone (Icon, 2003; second edition, 2012) and Science Policy under Thatcher (UCL Press, 2019). He is past editor of the British Journal of the History of Science, and founding editor of the open-access BJHS Themes. He was the recipient of the Royal Society’s 2016 Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar Medal and Lecture
