Mike Esbester

Mike’s research focuses on the history of transport and mobility in modern Britain, and in particular railway history, and on the history of accident prevention, safety and risk in later nineteenth and twentieth century Britain. The Railway Work, Life & Death project has cemented Mike’s enthusiasm for collaborative models of working. Recent publications include (with Paul Almond) Health and Safety in Contemporary Britain (Palgrave MacMillan, 2019) and (co-edited with Tom Crook) Governing Risks in Modern Britain (Palgrave MacMillan, 2016). Mike is also Associate Editor of the Journal of Transport History
